Loggins - Crosby not Kenny

Let me just say that I've been a fan of Kenny Loggins' music since my hippie mom used to play guitar and sing "House at Pooh Corner" for my brother and I at bed time in the 70s. I've seen him live {5th row, baby, and it was AWESOME!} and buy his music the second it comes out. Got an email from his organization today about his son, Crosby. Wow. Check him out. He's an amazing musician. Yeah... he looks and sounds a bit like his daddy, but that only goes so far. He's good. I'll be heading over to iTunes later to buy this album! {album... teehee. Yeah. I'm old. Like it's still vinyl..}

Top Chef night

How sad and pathetic I am... my secret shame... I love Top Chef. dh is home on Wednesday nights, and he pretends to be appalled and makes comments like, "I can actually see your IQ dropping during this show." But then, he watches, seemingly paying no attention while visiting his Maverick message boards.

The thing is, I would be a chef if it weren't for the whole "get your ass out of my kitchen" thing I have going on... I really don't want help in the kitchen. Just go sit in the living room with your beverage and leave me alone. I will chat with you later, or from across the room. Your choice. I get this from my mother. It's a wonder I even learned to cook at all {thanks Grandma J and Aunt B, for allowing me into the kitchen!}

But now this comes out. WTF? Who is out there taking shots at chefs? And he just kept cooking! What a guy. Guess they're saying he was hit by a "falling bullet" from a near-by golf course. Did people forget those pesky physics laws? Do they think that bullets, when fired into the air, just keep going up? I wonder how many people have died due to these falling bullets.

I have not touched my camera in days. It's just wrong. I need to go shoot something. {with the camera. No falling or otherwise bullets for me, thanks}

Speaking of shoots... {we weren't but now we are} we have some teeny, tiny little bits of green coming up in the yard. Bulbs, baby. dh and the girly girls planted tons of bulbs last fall, and it may be that the deer did not consume them all. Hooray. Nothing better than green after the winter.

Blog Slacker

Yup. That's me. Blog slacker. I've been reading this amazing, years long blog of a Chicago woman who calls herself Mimi Smartypants. I am regularly snorting beverages through my nose. I am inspired to begin blogging again - real entries... and to redo the graphics. Boring.

love how she {mimi smartypants} signs off... I may need to steal it...

Philly Flower Show

It's that time of year again. Hooray! I just love to see all the colors and smell spring in the air. They make it easy to forget that you're in a convention center! This year's theme is New Orleans. The exhibits are peppered with instruments and Jazz themes. Highly recommend you go see it if you have the chance.

"Vogue" Girl

This weather is driving me nuts. I want some warmer weather so I can take the kids out and do new photos. Dragged C out in the cold and the snow, bribing her with 'the coat' {a family heirloom}. She is such a model...

Peed myself laughing

I just have to share. I came across this blog via my fav. Catherine Newman's writing. A post called
And the Awards Go To... Oh my. I was laughing so hard the tears were running down my face. Bad parenting at it's finest.

Shall we get into how my dear {nearly 5 yr old} was playing a game on Noggin online the other day and from no where I hear, "oh, it's those damned eggs!" I ask her what she said, and she repeats it! I'm trying SO hard to not laugh. She defends herself "well, they are damned eggs".

Which is worse... that she said it, or that I could not control myself and ended up doubled over in laughter... She is my kid.

Apparently, at the lovely young age of 3-ish, I had an intense fear/loathing of dogs. {still not crazy about the, except for my dear moose-butt labs} The neighbor's dog came over and jumped on me. My mother told me to push it away with my knee. Didn't work. So, out of my sweet toddler mouth came "Damned fucking dog." So I know. I am prepared. I try very hard not to swear in front of the kids - NEVER the f-bomb {or as C calls it 'the mother of them all' from Christmas Story}. Guess damn or dammit is big for me. Ah well. I felt better when I found out that the sweet, similarly-aged daughter of the dance teacher called someone a "dumb ass" the other day.

Slackin' off...

Another busy busy month. The girls had their dance recital, and we were juggling extra practices with 3-night a week b-ball and now Girl Scouts {it's cookie time, you know}. Ahhhhhh. But b-ball is done now. Tues. should have been their last game, but the weather turned and they got kicked out of school early and of course, all extra activities were cancelled. We started off today with just a delay, but after I kicked poor C's butt out the door to go to the bus, we got the automated call... "Hi. This is so and so from S School Dist. with and update. School is now canceled." Great. Couldn't have decided that 10 minutes ago, right? Before I sent the poor kid out into the icy rain... So off to the truck I dash and catch her at the top of the hill. We slide back home {4wd only does so much} and while I'm totally annoyed with the school, I'm super glad I got her and we're home safe.

Tomorrow is Valentine's day, and she'll be unbelievably pissed if she doesn't have school. We made a batch of yummy cookies for her to take to school. She's got a really small class this year - only 16 - so a nice, big cookie for each in addition to some Kisses in bags. I should take a picture. This is what the cookies look like. Made a test batch the other night. SHHHH. Don't tell the kids they're oatmeal with some awesome King Arthur White Whole Wheat flour in them.

Busy, busy busy

The girls' dance show is coming up, and boy are we ever busy. Practices several nights a week, Girl Scouts has finally started up again, and CJ made the basketball team, so we've been doing that too! Too much, but soon it will all slow down again. I hope!

These poor kids have been working so hard... and they've finally won a game. Yippee! They've had some close ones, but this time, they pulled it off! They were so happy. Their last game was against a bunch of ruthless, tall, 4th graders. I'm not cut out to be a sports mom. I wanted to go out on the court and throttle the little brats for stealing the ball over and over. [I kept my mouth shut and my butt in my seat... but boy did I ever want to...] Maybe I'll get better at that, too.
